Get Your Child Tested for Lead

Lead can be found in older homes, soil around the home, and in some toys. Children under age six are most at risk for lead poisoning. Dangers can include reduced growth, attention disorders, and speech and hearing issues. In extreme cases, lead poisoning can cause coma, seizures, or death.

Children with lead poisoning don’t always show symptoms, so it is important to get your child tested. Dean Health Plan recommends that your child receive a blood lead test at one and two years of age. If your child will soon turn 12 or 24 months, be sure to ask for a blood lead test at their next health check appointment. This test is covered by your insurance.
