Testing New Technology

With all the new medical technology available today, do you ever wonder how health insurance companies evaluate new treatments and procedures to decide which ones to cover? At DHP, we evaluate new medical devices, new techniques and new uses for old procedures. We also evaluate new medications regularly.

A team of DHP doctors is responsible for the initial evaluation. Team members review published information from peer review organizations and peer-reviewed articles. They also get input from other doctors in our network. Healthcare experts in the Dean organization then review this information. If there is evidence that the new technology improves outcomes over the long term without increased risk, we change or add benefit determinations to reflect the value of the new procedure, device or medication.
