DHP Updates

December 21, 2009

Dear Dean Health Plan Members,

Photo of Robert L. Palmer, P.Eng.; President and CEOWe are all well aware of the National Health Insurance Reform debate and believe that it will result in change. Whether that change will be good or bad for the consumer, remains to be seen. However, I believe there is an important part of the discussion on insurance reform which is the core of what great health insurance must be all about - affordability and sustainability. So while I may not be sure of what's to come, I can promise you that as a Dean Health Plan (DHP) member, it will always be our priority to provide you with value-driven, comprehensive health care coverage options.

Outstanding Care and Coverage

With that said, we are fortunate to live in an area with outstanding health care and insurance coverage. Recently I did an interview with Managed Healthcare Executive, where I spoke about just that - the outstanding level of care available to residents of south-central Wisconsin. (Read the complete article in Managed Healthcare Executive at: managedhealthcareexecutive.modernmedicine.com.) We are incredibly privileged to be able to state this as fact because it's not true everywhere. It is important to point out that not all insurance plans available to you are created equal. That's where DHP shines. DHP is 100 percent provider-owned and features an extensive network of engaged partners. This helps us focus on managed care that encourages all providers to efficiently provide the most effective patient care with emphasis on preventive care and management of chronic disease. And that is the kind of health care we all deserve.

Assessing Our Progress

One way we measure our progress and evaluate needed changes is through the Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS) survey results. As a Dean Health Plan member, you may be asked to participate in this survey which is conducted by an independent organization selected by the National Committee For Quality Assurance. If so, I encourage you to take some time to provide us with your feedback so that we can better serve you. You can also contact me directly at 800-336-3302 or via email at dhp.ceo@deancare.com.

I know 2009 has brought hardships to many of our members, and it is my hope that 2010 will bring about positive change for each of you.

Sincerely,
Signature of Robert L. Palmer, P.Eng.
