Building Tomorrow’s Health:
A New Face for Health Care in Northeast Nebraska
The largest construction project in the history of health care in Norfolk is nearing completion and will soon be a new home away from home for thousands of northeast Nebraska residents receiving medical care. Patients and their loved ones will soon get to experience how the design of the new, state-of-the-art facility merges advanced medical technology with a family-centered healing environment.
The patient experience is an important focus in the design of the new health care facility at Faith Regional. Patient rooms are much larger — almost double the size of existing rooms — and are laid out to accommodate physicians, nurses, and other health care professionals, as well as patients and their families. Each room has its own private bathroom with special provisions for individuals who have trouble moving around. Large sitting areas in each room have a sofa seat that converts to a bed so that family members may stay if they wish.
Design with patient in mind
Each floor has patient rooms that are located just inside the perimeter of the building and feature large picture windows. The public areas, such as hallways and family lounges, are located at the hub of each floor to accommodate families and visitors in a quiet and healing environment. The main entrance to the hospital will be in the same location for the general public. One very special entrance, however, will be the one used exclusively by expectant mothers. Understanding the urgency a mom in labor feels, the private elevator allows mothers to go directly to the third-floor labor and delivery area.
Critical to providing a high-tech medical environment are new improvements on how care is delivered. Some of these improvements include decentralized nursing work areas that help keep caregivers close to patients and “nonessential” activities away from patient care areas. Corridors with direct routes to patient rooms help provide uninterrupted care and privacy for the patient. The entire building will contain a wireless infrastructure to accommodate new technology, including the preparation of the electronic medical record. Learn more about electronic medical records.
A place for healing
Two of the most unique aspects of the new facility are the Bradford Family Spiritual and Froehlich Family Healing Gardens. The Bradford Family Spiritual Garden is an area for reflection and meditation. Visitors will be able to create their own spiritual path using the uniquely designed labyrinth. The Froehlich Family Healing Garden features a peaceful water element and stones strategically placed with plant growth to create a serene environment. Patients, visitors, and employees will be able to retreat to these tranquil areas that foster spiritual and emotional healing. From the style of furniture to aesthetically pleasing colors, shapes, and textures, all items have been selected with patient care and comfort in mind, while at the same time designed to create greater efficiencies for health care providers.
The one thing that remains the same is Faith Regional’s unwavering commitment to provide the highest level of quality patient care to every patient, each and every day.
From the outside, the new facility sits directly next to the existing west campus building. Inside, however, stark differences will reflect new philosophies of commitment to privacy, utilization of the most advanced technology, and focus on the family to support patients’ healing.
