Stay in network.*
Use the Online Provider Directory. It’s another great way to be sure you’re staying within your network and saving money. Just click here, and then select a specialty or health care provider type (some examples: Pediatrician, Dermatologist, etc.). You can search by name, plan, or location.
You can also use the Online Provider Directory to find participating X-Ray/Imaging Centers. You should know that if your doctor sends you for an X-Ray, CT scan, or MRI, it will generally cost you less to have that test at an independent, or “freestanding,” in-network X-Ray/Imaging Center—rather than as an outpatient at a hospital. You can locate participating X-Ray/Imaging Centers here. Choose Health Care Facility, then X-Ray/Imaging.
Check out your ID card—the key to your coverage. Make sure you’re getting the full value of your in-network benefits by checking your member ID card for the name of the plan you have. (Is it BlueOptions or perhaps BlueChoice?) Also, ask your health care provider if they participate in the network for your specific plan. If you have a member ID card with a magnetic stripe on the back, your health care provider can swipe your card through their card reader and tell you what your out-of-pocket costs will be—even before you have the service or procedure. So ask about Availity’s CareCalc at your doctor’s office. If they don’t have it, you might encourage them to get it.
