Use convenient care centers for non-emergency care.
In case of an emergency…like chest pain, shortness of breath, altered mental status, weakness or uncontrolled bleeding, by all means, go to the ER (or call 911). And even if your condition is non-life threatening, it’s a good idea to ask someone to drive you.
But for non-emergencies…from allergies to sprains, a visit to a convenient care center, like the one in your local pharmacy or supercenter, will save you money—and you’ll have a shorter wait time, too. On average, an emergency room visit will cost around $1,300. Average wait times are more difficult to pinpoint—some resources say one hour is typical, while others estimate more than three hours. If you’re not sure if your condition is an emergency, call our 24-hour nurse line at 1-877-789-2583, and a nurse or health care coach will help you decide.
