Steer Clear of Medication Interactions

Certain medication interactions can increase your risk for side effects or reduce a medicine’s effectiveness:

  • Antacids or acid reducers + asthma medications, blood thinners, antibiotics, or heart medications. Indigestion medications may keep some medications from working correctly.
  • Decongestants + high blood pressure medications. Decongestants can boost blood pressure in women taking hypertension medication.
  • Blood thinners + pain relievers. Medications such as warfarin help prevent blood clots. Taking them along with aspirin, acetaminophen, or naproxen could cause excessive bleeding.
