Know Your Numbers
If you have diabetes, these tests can help you keep the condition under control:
A1c test. This blood test measures blood sugar control over the past 60 to 90 days. People with diabetes should have an A1c test two to four times a year. The target A1c level is lower than 7 percent.
Blood pressure check. You should have a blood pressure check every time you visit your physician. People with diabetes should aim for a blood pressure of lower than 130/80 mm Hg, according to the American Heart Association and American Diabetes Association.
Cholesterol test. Get your cholesterol checked at least once a year. The target goal for LDL, or “bad,” cholesterol is 100 mg/dl or lower.
