Prescription Benefits
Health care can be expensive, even when you have insurance. To help keep your health care costs down, make sure that you know how to use your Medicare prescription plan.
Learn About
Generic Medications
Horizon Medicare prescription
plans cover both brand-name
and generic medications. A
generic medication is
the chemical equivalent
of a brand-name
medication. This
means that generic
medications have the
same active ingredients
as brand-name
medications but cost
less. Generic medications
also have the same quality,
safety and dosages as brand-name
medications. You can
save money by asking your
physician to prescribe generic
medications rather than
brand-name ones. To find
the generic version of a
medicine, talk with your
physician or pharmacist.
Use Your Formulary
You can also find generic
medications using a tool
known as a formulary. A
formulary is a list of medications
that are covered under
your Medicare prescription
plan. The formulary lists the
generic and brand-name
medications that are covered
by your plan.
To get a copy of your formulary,
