Contest Winner’s Art Meant to Inspire Other KidsIn the last issue of MonteKidsNews, we announced a very special art contest. We asked you to send us your original art and describe a feeling through your art. This contest was meant to help children, young adults, parents, healthcare providers and teachers understand that art is a useful tool to help you cope with feelings, especially when you are sick or hospitalized. Through art, you can explore and work through feelings of sadness, fear, frustration and more. In the hospital, this is known as art therapy. But anyone can use art as a tool to help heal both the mind and body. We are pleased to announce our first place contest winner. Congratulations to Cindy Zhou for her drawing entitled “At the Hospital … I’m Nervous.” Cindy Zhou received the 1st Place Award for her art
contest entry titled, “At the Hospital … I’m Nervous.”Drawing is one of Cindy’s favorite hobbies, so it was only natural that she would use her skills to create a drawing of her experience. Judges selected her drawing as the first place overall winner from among 100 entries. She and her family are proud of her accomplishment and hope that her picture will inspire other kids. “I hope it makes kids feel better when they go to the hospital,” Cindy says. “Kids will know that I felt nervous, but I got through it so they can get through something, too.” In addition to drawing, the accomplished third grader from Old Westbury, NY, also enjoys painting, playing the piano and the violin, skating and writing.
